Non-selective beta-1/beta-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta-blocker), sourced and documented for export.

Propranolol hydrochloride is a non-selective beta-1/beta-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist, one of the oldest beta-blockers in clinical use and the reference molecule against which newer cardioselective agents are still measured. M Care stocks it as immediate-release film-coated tablets (10mg, 40mg, 80mg), sustained-release capsules (80mg, 160mg) for once-daily dosing, an oral solution for paediatric and dysphagic patients, and a 1mg/mL injection for acute IV use. Tablets and capsules store at controlled room temperature in a light-resistant pack, no cold chain required; oral solution and injection are batch-tested and dispatched with a minimum residual shelf life agreed at order stage. Primary containers are blister strips or HDPE bottles with tamper-evident closures, boxed with destination-language patient information leaflets.

Who we supply

Hospital pharmacies, licensed importers and tender desks across our export markets.

India is our origin. We do not sell into the Indian market.

Hospital and community pharmacy buyers, NHS trust procurement, MoH tender desks across the GCC and Africa, NGO and Global Fund-adjacent procurement, and licensed importers and wholesalers in our 49 served markets. Propranolol's broad licensed indication set, hypertension, angina, arrhythmia, migraine prophylaxis, essential tremor, thyrotoxicosis adjunct and, in the UK, situational anxiety, means it sits on formularies across cardiology, neurology, endocrinology and primary care simultaneously, so tender desks often order it alongside cardioselective agents like bisoprolol or metoprolol rather than in place of them. India is not a market we sell into; every order ships to a licensed importer or hospital buyer outside India.

Pharmacist's note

What the dispensing pharmacist checks on propranolol.

Propranolol is lipophilic and crosses the blood-brain barrier more readily than cardioselective beta-blockers, which is why it is the beta-blocker of choice for essential tremor and migraine prophylaxis but also the one more likely to be flagged for sleep disturbance and vivid dreams on a medicines-reconciliation review. Dosing is titrated to response rather than weight in adults, but paediatric use (thyrotoxicosis, infantile haemangioma under specialist supervision) is strictly weight-based and needs the oral solution, not a crushed tablet. The single hardest rule to enforce at ward level: never stop propranolol abruptly in a patient on it for angina or post-MI secondary prevention. Sudden withdrawal can unmask rebound angina, precipitate myocardial infarction, or, in a thyrotoxic patient, tip into thyroid storm. Any taper plan should run over several weeks, flagged clearly on the discharge summary. No cold-chain requirement for any of our propranolol lines; store at controlled room temperature, protected from light.

Regulatory & quality

The documentation pack a regulator actually asks for.

Every propranolol shipment travels with a full CTD Module 3 (or equivalent CMC dossier for non-eCTD markets), a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis and Certificate of Manufacture, and a WHO-GMP Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product issued via CDSCO, apostilled or notarised as the destination requires. Pack inserts and labelling are prepared in the destination language and checked against local regulator formatting before print. M Care does not hold its own WHO-PQ or WHO-GMP manufacturing status; we broker to WHO-GMP and, on selected lines, EU-GMP partner sites, and we pass through the manufacturer's pharmacovigilance contact details on the registration file rather than acting as the PV holder ourselves.

Permit sequence, registration status and customs handling are documented in importing medicines from India through the licensed route; this page sticks to what is specific to the molecule.

CoA and MoA, per batch

Batch-specific certificate and method of analysis from the sourcing manufacturer's QC release.

CoPP, WHO-GMP, MFG licence

Certificate of pharmaceutical product and site GMP certification issued via CDSCO channels, naming the actual manufacturing site.

CTD Module 3

Chemistry, manufacturing and controls documentation available from the sourcing manufacturer for registration filings.

Pack insert, labels, artwork

Destination-language patient information and labelling to the local regulator's standard, locked before shipment.

Pharmacovigilance

A named PV contact arranged in the destination market where the registration requires one.

Frequently asked

Propranolol supply, the specific questions.

We're a hospital pharmacy in East Africa. Which propranolol forms and strengths can M Care actually supply?

We carry propranolol hydrochloride as immediate-release film-coated tablets in 10mg, 40mg and 80mg, sustained-release capsules in 80mg and 160mg for once-daily dosing, an oral solution for paediatric or swallowing-impaired patients, and a 1mg/mL injection for acute intravenous use. Across those forms we hold multiple licensed WHO-GMP manufacturer lines, so we can usually route around a single supplier's stock-out. Tell us the strength, pack size and volume you need and we'll confirm which line is available against your timeline.

Is propranolol only available as the Inderal brand, or can we buy a licensed generic?

Propranolol has been off patent for decades and is one of the most widely genericised beta-blockers on the market: the US FDA, MHRA and EMA member-state regulators have all approved multiple generic propranolol hydrochloride tablets, capsules and solutions alongside the Inderal-branded originator. For most procurement buyers the generic is the practical choice on cost and lead time. We supply WHO-GMP generic propranolol hydrochloride; if your tender specifically requires the Inderal-branded product, say so at enquiry stage so we can confirm whether that's a line we can source for your market.

We need propranolol licensed for situational or performance anxiety, not just cardiac indications. Can you confirm the label supports that?

In the UK, propranolol's Summary of Product Characteristics includes relief of situational anxiety and generalised anxiety symptoms as a licensed indication, which is unusual among beta-blockers and one reason it's specified by name on primary-care and occupational-health formularies there. That licensed indication doesn't automatically carry across every market we serve, so we check the destination-country label wording against your registration file before confirming supply, rather than assuming the UK indication set applies.

We've read that propranolol oral solution and injection are on shortage lists. How does M Care manage that risk for a tender order?

Propranolol hydrochloride oral solution has been listed on the US drug shortage list since February 2025, and the 1mg/mL injection has separately been reported on back order, both driven by supply constraints at individual US-market manufacturers, while the immediate-release tablet and sustained-release capsule have stayed comparatively available. Because we hold multiple manufacturer lines rather than a single-source arrangement, we can usually offer an alternative pack size or form if your first-choice line is constrained, and we flag lead-time risk at quotation stage rather than after you've committed to a delivery date.

Does propranolol need cold-chain shipping or any special import handling?

No. Propranolol tablets, sustained-release capsules and oral solution are stable at controlled room temperature and only need protection from light and moisture in a standard pharmaceutical pack; the injection is likewise stored at room temperature, not refrigerated. Import handling follows the same route as any Schedule-free prescription-only medicine into your market: propranolol is not a controlled substance, so it doesn't carry the narcotics-licensing burden that applies to some other cardiovascular or CNS lines we export.

Can M Care supply propranolol oral solution for infantile haemangioma treatment?

Infantile haemangioma is a specialist paediatric indication with its own dedicated, weight-banded oral solution (marketed in some markets as Hemangeol or Hemangiol) and a tightly monitored initiation protocol under paediatric dermatology or cardiology supervision. We can source standard propranolol hydrochloride oral solution for buyers whose regulator and prescribing protocol support its use in that indication, but this is a specialist order, not a stock tender line, so we'd talk it through with your clinical team before quoting.
