Bulk supply and export terms

Deferiprone exporter and bulk supplier from India.

"We need a partner for Ferriprox" is a typical enquiry from a haematology or thalassaemia unit pharmacy, or from a tender desk covering transfusion-dependent patients. M Care is a merchant-exporter: we supply originator or regulator-registered brands and Indian-made lines, and we confirm which one your destination accepts before quoting. Ferriprox is not one line but several, and the range differs by market. The EU EPAR covers 500 mg and 1000 mg tablets and a 100 mg/mL oral solution, and the UK emc tablet text covers 500 mg and 1000 mg film-coated tablets. In the US, Drugs@FDA lists the Ferriprox 500 mg tablet as discontinued, and the current US tablet label covers a 1000 mg tablet taken three times a day and a separate 1000 mg tablet taken twice a day, alongside the 100 mg/mL oral solution. The solution is the product some buyers search for as ferriprox syrup. It is an ambient-temperature oral medicine, so there is no cold chain, but the pack, the strength and the dosing schedule all change the quote. Indian-made lines on our roster include Kelfer 500 mg capsules.

Oral iron chelator, sourced and documented for export.

Deferiprone is an oral iron chelator. The EMA EPAR (page updated 21 April 2026) lists Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A. as the Ferriprox marketing authorisation holder, with the EU authorisation dated 25 August 1999. The EU indication is monotherapy for iron overload in patients with thalassaemia major when current chelation therapy is contraindicated or inadequate, or combination with another chelator when monotherapy is ineffective or when rapid or intensive correction of life-threatening, mainly cardiac, iron overload is needed. The UK emc lists Chiesi Limited as holder of the 500 mg and 1000 mg tablets, with a first authorisation date of 1 January 2021. The US labels, from Chiesi USA, Inc., are broader: the tablets are indicated for transfusional iron overload in patients 8 years and older with thalassaemia syndromes, sickle cell disease or other anaemias, and the oral solution for the same use in patients 3 years and older. The US labels state that safety and effectiveness are not established for myelodysplastic syndrome or Diamond Blackfan anaemia. The US labels carry a boxed warning for agranulocytosis and neutropenia, and name Apotex Inc., Toronto, as manufacturer. Drugs@FDA lists the US Ferriprox 500 mg tablet as discontinued, while the 1000 mg tablets and the 100 mg/mL oral solution are listed as prescription products.

Who we supply

Hospital pharmacies, licensed importers and tender desks across our export markets.

India is our origin. We do not sell into the Indian market.

Buyers are hospital pharmacists in haematology and thalassaemia units, MoH and hospital tender desks, and licensed importers and distributors in the GCC, Africa and the UK. Typical enquiries read "I'm looking for Ferriprox 500 mg tablets for a thalassaemia centre" or "We need a partner for deferiprone oral solution for a tender". Each destination has its own route to registration or import, for example the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) in the UAE, NAFDAC in Nigeria and the MHRA in the UK, and we align the offer with it before quoting. M Care supplies both originator or regulator-registered brands and Indian-made lines, and does not state that any Indian-made line is registered in a given destination unless that destination's regulator confirms it.

Pharmacist's note

What the dispensing pharmacist checks on deferiprone.

Plan the pack list by presentation, because the dosing schedule differs. The EU and UK texts give a usual dose of 25 mg/kg three times a day, and the UK text states that total daily doses above 100 mg/kg are not recommended. The US oral solution label gives 25 mg/kg three times a day, up to 33 mg/kg per dose (99 mg/kg/day). The US tablet label starts both 1000 mg formulations at 75 mg/kg/day, in three divided doses for the three-times-a-day tablet, or in two doses about 12 hours apart with food for the twice-a-day tablet, up to 99 mg/kg/day. The US labels allow a start at 45 mg/kg/day, rising weekly by 15 mg/kg/day, to minimise gastrointestinal upset. Neutrophil monitoring is the key control. The US labels require an absolute neutrophil count before treatment, weekly for the first six months, every two weeks for the next six, then every two to four weeks, and say to interrupt therapy if neutropenia develops (a count below 1.5 x 10^9/L) or infection develops. The UK tablet text calls for weekly counts in the first year. The US labels advise leaving at least 4 hours between Ferriprox and iron, aluminium or zinc products. The US solution label says to discard unused solution 35 days after first opening, and the UK 1000 mg tablet bottle is used within 50 days of opening.

Regulatory & quality

The documentation pack a regulator actually asks for.

Deferiprone is an ambient-temperature product, so no cold chain applies on the labels we read. The US tablet and solution labels give 20 to 25 °C with excursions to 15 to 30 °C, and the US solution label adds that it is kept in the original bottle and carton to protect from light. The UK tablet text states not above 30 °C, with the 1000 mg bottle kept tightly closed against moisture. The UK shelf life is stated as 5 years for the 500 mg tablets and 4 years for the 1000 mg tablets. M Care documentation covers batch certificates of analysis, export documents and destination-aligned dossier support where the regulator asks for it. We state the source and status of each line before quoting, and we make no claim of WHO-GMP or WHO prequalification for M Care itself. Where a line is WHO-GMP sourced, we say so only for the manufacturing site.

CoA and MoA, per batch

Batch-specific certificate and method of analysis from the sourcing manufacturer's QC release.

CoPP, WHO-GMP, MFG licence

Frequently asked

Deferiprone supply, the specific questions.

What is the Ferriprox 500 mg tablet price?

M Care Exports does not publish a price, because the landed price for an importer depends on several inputs. These are whether the line is the originator Ferriprox or an Indian-made or other regulator-registered line, the strength and pack (500 mg or 1000 mg tablets, or the oral solution), the quantity, the registration route in the destination, and the Incoterms. Deferiprone ships at ambient temperature, so cold-chain cost is not a factor. Send the destination, the presentation and the quantity, and we quote per destination.

Is there a Ferriprox generic?

Yes, in the EU and the US. The EMA lists Deferiprone Lipomed, from Lipomed GmbH, as a generic medicine with Ferriprox as its reference medicine, authorised on 20 September 2018 and available as 500 mg tablets. DailyMed lists generic deferiprone tablets approved under abbreviated new drug applications from US labelers including Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Hikma Pharmaceuticals USA and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries. In the UK, the emc lists a Deferiprone 500 mg film-coated tablet from Mercury Pharmaceuticals Ltd under the non-proprietary name. Indian-made lines on our roster, such as Kelfer 500 mg capsules, are supplied only to destinations whose registration accepts them.

Is Ferriprox 500 mg the only tablet strength?

No. The EU and UK texts list 500 mg and 1000 mg film-coated tablets. In the US, Drugs@FDA lists the Ferriprox 500 mg tablet as discontinued, and the current US tablet label covers two 1000 mg formulations: a tablet taken three times a day and a separate tablet taken twice a day. The US label directs that the daily dose is rounded to the nearest 500 mg (half-tablet). If you are looking for a specific strength, tell us the destination and the dosing schedule your prescribers use, because the twice-a-day 1000 mg tablet is a different product from the three-times-a-day 1000 mg tablet.

Is Ferriprox syrup the same as the oral solution?

Buyers who search for ferriprox syrup are looking for the 100 mg/mL oral solution, which is how the labels describe it. The US label supplies it as a 500 mL bottle with a graduated measuring cup and states a starting dose of 25 mg/kg three times a day for patients 3 years and older, rounded to the nearest 2.5 mL. The US label says to discard unused solution 35 days after first opening. It is stored at ambient temperature in the original bottle and carton to protect from light.

What are the side effects of Ferriprox?

The US labels carry a boxed warning that Ferriprox can cause agranulocytosis and neutropenia, which can lead to serious infections and death, so the neutrophil count is monitored and therapy is interrupted if neutropenia or infection develops. The EMA lists red-brown urine, nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting as the most common side effects. The EMA also states that Ferriprox must not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is a summary of label text for procurement teams, not clinical advice.

Is deferiprone on the WHO Essential Medicines List?

The WHO Model List of Essential Medicines (2023) lists oral deferasirox on the core list for transfusional iron overload, and the WHO list page names oral deferiprone as its therapeutic alternative in the square box. Deferiprone is therefore not a separate core listing. National lists and tenders differ, and whether Ferriprox, a generic or an Indian-made line is registered depends on the destination regulator. M Care Exports confirms the route per enquiry before quoting.
