Bulk supply and export terms

Propofol exporter and bulk supplier from India.

"We need a partner for propofol" is a typical enquiry from an anaesthesia pharmacy, an ICU or a ministry tender desk. M Care is a merchant-exporter: we supply originator or regulator-registered brands and Indian-made lines, and we confirm which one your destination's registration route accepts before quoting. Propofol is not one line but several. The US Diprivan label lists only 10 mg/mL single-dose vials of 10, 20, 50 and 100 mL, in packages of ten vials (twenty for the 50 mL size). The UK Aspen texts list 10 mg/mL in 20 mL ampoules (boxes of 5), 50 mL and 100 mL vials and a 50 mL pre-filled syringe, and 20 mg/mL in 10 mL and 50 mL pre-filled syringes. The Dutch Diprivan text lists Diprivan-10 and Diprivan-20 with different shelf lives by presentation. Propofol is an emulsion that must not freeze, but it does not need refrigeration on the US, UK or Dutch texts we read. Indian-made lines on our roster include Troypofol 10 mg and 20 mg injection, Neorof 50 mL injection and Profol 500 mg/50 mL injection. Related lines that anaesthesia buyers list beside it are lidocaine, dopamine and calcium gluconate.

Intravenous general anaesthetic and sedative, supplied as a lipid emulsion, sourced and documented for export.

Propofol is a short-acting intravenous general anaesthetic and sedative, supplied as a white oil-in-water emulsion. The US label (Diprivan, Fresenius Kabi USA, DailyMed page updated September 2025) lists induction of general anaesthesia in patients aged 3 years and over, maintenance in patients aged 2 months and over, monitored anaesthesia care sedation in adults, sedation in adults alongside regional anaesthesia, and ICU sedation of intubated, mechanically ventilated adults. Each mL holds 10 mg propofol with soybean oil, glycerol, purified egg phospholipids and disodium edetate, and the label's contraindications are hypersensitivity to propofol or any component and a history of anaphylaxis to eggs, egg products, soybeans or soy products. The UK Aspen text for the 1% product covers general anaesthesia and procedural sedation from 1 month of age and ventilated ICU sedation over 16 years; the 2% text covers general anaesthesia and procedural sedation from 3 years. Both UK texts name soya-bean oil and purified egg phosphatide among the excipients and contraindicate use in patients hypersensitive to peanut or soya. Dutch regulator-published labelling lists Diprivan-10 and Diprivan-20 with Aspen Pharma Trading Limited as the holder. A 2020 Aspen letter to UK healthcare professionals, published on GOV.UK, names Diprivan 10 mg/ml (1%) under UK licence PL 39699/0074, and the current emc entry under that same licence number is named Propofol 10 mg/ml (1%), not Diprivan. Aspen's UK 2% product appears on the emc as Propofol 20 mg/ml (2%).

Who we supply

Hospital pharmacies, licensed importers and tender desks across our export markets.

India is our origin. We do not sell into the Indian market.

Buyers are hospital pharmacists in anaesthesia, theatres and intensive care, MoH and hospital tender desks, and licensed importers and distributors in the GCC, Africa and the UK. Typical enquiries read "I'm looking for propofol 1% 20 mL ampoules for a theatre formulary" or "We need a partner for propofol 500 mg/50 mL vials for a tender". Each destination has its own route to registration or import, for example the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) in the UAE, NAFDAC in Nigeria and the MHRA in the UK, and we align the offer with it before quoting. M Care supplies both originator or regulator-registered brands and Indian-made lines, and does not state that any Indian-made line is registered in a given destination unless that destination's regulator confirms it.

Pharmacist's note

What the dispensing pharmacist checks on propofol.

Treat propofol as a lipid emulsion first. It supports microbial growth, so the labels are strict. The US label says administration must be completed within 12 hours of opening a vial, or of spiking it for ICU use, and that vials are never accessed more than once or used on more than one person. The UK 1% text adds that a dilution is prepared aseptically just before use and used within 6 hours, and both UK texts say the infusion line and reservoir are discarded after 12 hours at the latest. The Dutch text also gives a 6-hour limit for mixtures. Dilution is limited: the Dutch text allows at most 1 part Diprivan-10 to 4 parts 5% glucose, and the UK 2% product must not be diluted. Shake before use. On filters, the UK texts say not to give propofol through a microbiological filter and the Dutch text says not through a membrane filter, while the US label allows a filter only with a pore size of 5 micron or greater unless shown otherwise. For long ICU infusions, watch for propofol infusion syndrome. The US label ties the risk to doses above 5 mg/kg/hour for more than 48 hours, and the UK texts advise not exceeding 4 mg/kg/hour where possible. Check the age limits against the strength: the UK 2% text does not recommend use under 3 years, and both UK texts contraindicate ICU sedation in patients aged 16 or younger.

Regulatory & quality

The documentation pack a regulator actually asks for.

Propofol emulsion needs no cold chain on the texts we read, but it must never freeze. The US Diprivan label says to store between 4 °C and 25 °C and not to freeze. The UK Aspen texts say 2 °C to 25 °C, do not freeze, with a shelf life of 3 years for the 1% product and 2 years for the 2% pre-filled syringes. The Dutch Diprivan text says to store below 25 °C, not in the freezer, with shelf lives of 18 to 36 months depending on the presentation. A frozen unit is not usable. Exported lots therefore need a temperature-controlled lane that guards the low end as well as the high end, which matters for winter freight into the UK and parts of Europe. Drugs@FDA lists Diprivan 10 mg/mL (Fresenius Kabi USA) as the reference listed drug, and DailyMed also carries generic propofol injectable emulsion labels from several other US labellers. On the UK emc, Aspen's propofol 1% and 2% products are listed under the name Propofol. M Care documentation covers batch certificates of analysis, export documents and destination-aligned dossier support where the regulator requires it. We state the source and quality status of each line before it is quoted, and a manufacturer's WHO-GMP status is stated only for the source site.

Frequently asked

Propofol supply, the specific questions.

What is the generic name of Diprivan, and is Diprivan the same as propofol?

The generic name is propofol. Diprivan is a brand name for propofol, so the active substance is the same. The US Diprivan label (Fresenius Kabi USA) lists propofol 10 mg/mL as an injectable emulsion, Drugs@FDA lists Diprivan as the reference listed drug, and DailyMed carries generic propofol injectable emulsion labels from several other US labellers. In the Netherlands, Diprivan-10 and Diprivan-20 are labelled with Aspen Pharma Trading Limited as holder. On the UK emc, Aspen's products are named Propofol rather than Diprivan. Labelled details such as excipients, shelf life and pack size differ by product, so check the label of the exact product you intend to buy.

Diprivan vs propofol: is there a difference an importer should know about?

On the labels, the difference is the product, not the molecule. Diprivan is one brand of propofol. Other propofol emulsions carry their own labels, and they differ in details a buyer notices. The US Diprivan label lists 10 mg/mL only, with soybean oil at 100 mg/mL, glycerol, purified egg phospholipids and disodium edetate, and storage at 4 °C to 25 °C. The UK Aspen texts add a 20 mg/mL strength, and give storage at 2 °C to 25 °C. Shelf life and pack sizes also differ. We do not recommend one product over another. We quote the product your destination registers or accepts.

What is Diprivan injection used for, and what do the labels say about age limits?

Diprivan is an intravenous general anaesthetic and sedative. The US label lists induction of general anaesthesia from 3 years of age, maintenance from 2 months, monitored anaesthesia care sedation and sedation alongside regional anaesthesia in adults, and ICU sedation of intubated, ventilated adults. The UK Aspen 1% text covers general anaesthesia and procedural sedation from 1 month and ventilated ICU sedation over 16 years. The 2% text covers general anaesthesia and procedural sedation from 3 years, and states that 2% is not recommended under 3 years because small volumes are hard to titrate. Always follow the label in your destination.

Which strengths and presentations does propofol come in, and what is the cold-chain position?

The US Diprivan label lists 10 mg/mL single-dose vials of 10 mL, 20 mL, 50 mL and 100 mL. The UK Aspen texts list 10 mg/mL in 20 mL ampoules (boxes of 5), 50 mL and 100 mL vials and a 50 mL pre-filled syringe, and 20 mg/mL in 10 mL and 50 mL pre-filled syringes. Storage is 4 °C to 25 °C in the US label and 2 °C to 25 °C in the UK Aspen texts, and neither allows freezing. No refrigeration is required on these texts, so freight is simpler than for cold-chain biologics, but a freeze excursion makes a lot unusable.

How long can an opened propofol vial or syringe be used, and what is propofol infusion syndrome?

The US Diprivan label says administration must be completed within 12 hours after a vial is opened (within 12 hours after spiking for ICU use). The UK Aspen texts say a single infusion must not exceed 12 hours, and the 1% text says a dilution is prepared aseptically just before use and used within 6 hours. Propofol infusion syndrome is a serious and potentially fatal combination of metabolic acidosis, hyperkalaemia, rhabdomyolysis, hepatomegaly, renal failure and cardiac failure, linked to prolonged high-dose infusions. The US label cites doses above 5 mg/kg/hour for more than 48 hours, and the UK texts advise not exceeding 4 mg/kg/hour where possible. These points belong in your pharmacy protocol.

What decides the landed price of propofol for an importer?

We do not publish prices. The landed cost depends on whether you want the originator Diprivan, a regulator-registered propofol or an Indian-made line such as Troypofol, Neorof or Profol, the concentration (10 mg/mL or 20 mg/mL), the presentation (ampoule, vial or pre-filled syringe), the pack size, the quantity, the registration route in your destination and Incoterms. Propofol needs no refrigeration on the texts we read, but it must not freeze, so the lane still matters. M Care Exports quotes per destination once we have the presentation, pack and quantity.
